July 16th Training update

Picture of a GPS swim route for July 16th training swim in Aquatic Park.

We had some qualifiers today, notably Dave Smith. Dave, a Vietnam Vet, is 69 years old and decided to give himself an epic 70th birthday present: swimming from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park with us on September 25th! The rest of our swimmers today improved their skills in the water and gained more confidence swimming in open water.

Other first time swimmers, like Ryan Berg, experienced swimming the San Francisco Bay waters for the first time. He was able to get one-on-one instruction from Coach Patti.

We are fortunate to have some incredibly experienced coaches helping us improve our technique and ensure every practice is safe. Stephanie and others proved kayak support to make sure all swimmers are doing well. Kirk led the group on an outside-in loop and Patti worked individually with our newer swimmers.

There is still time to join us and train, but don’t wait too much longer.

July 9th training update

Hey everyone,

It was great to see a big group of swimmers out today. The fog burned off just in time for great views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz. A group of us swam to Fort Mason while a big contingent improved their technique while swimming a cove.

The coaches have been impressed by everyone’s improvements over the weeks and are excited to see how many people have qualified already.

There is still time for those people who have not made any swim practices yet, but we are getting closer to the date of the swim. Visit the meet up group to see a schedule of practices. The big practice is on Saturday mornings at 10:00 am with coaches and kayak support. You’ll be able to spot us thanks to Terri, who had a big banner made with our logo:

Some of us are meeting on Thursdays to swim, but coaching is limited then. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and ask.  In the meantime, check out this video on proper breathing technique and drills. You might recognize the location.
